【 Warts 】Do Warts Need Treatment?

Viral warts are contagious skin disease caused by Human Papillomavirus (HPV). They are mainly transmitted through contact and can appear anywhere on the body. The skin on the affected area will develop a growth caused by the virus, which will make the skin layer hard and thick, causing discomfort or pain and affecting the appearance.

Common types of viral warts

They may gradually increase in size or number and may have a rough, cauliflower-like appearance. It is mainly transmitted through sexual contact and is highly contagious.

Treatment of viral warts

Since warts are contagious and virus can be transmitted through contact, there is a possibility to spread to other parts of the body and even to family members and friends who are living together. Depending on the type and severity of warts, doctors may use the following treatment options: topical salicylic acid, cryotherapy, electrocautery, excision, laser treatment, etc.

Carbon dioxide laser therapy (CO2 laser) is an effective method for treating warts. It is suitable for various types of warts, including common warts, plane warts, plantar warts, etc.

  1. Principle:

High-energy CO2 laser is used to precisely remove the diseased tissue without causing damage to surrounding healthy tissue.

2. Treatment process:

a. Firstly, doctor carefully examines and determines the location, type, and size of the wart to be treated.
b. Next, anesthetic cream will be applied so patient will not feel any pain during treatment.
c. Then, doctor will use CO2 laser to accurately scan the affected area and remove the wart tissue layer by layer.

3. Results:

The recurrence rate of warts treated with CO2 laser is low. Most patients only need 1-2 sessions for treatment. Some refractory or recurrent warts may require multiple treatment sessions.

4. Advantages:

  • Precise, less traumatic, and will not cause excessive tissue damage.
  • Quick recovery.
  • Low recurrence rate with better therapeutic effect.
  • Suitable for warts of most types and locations.
